Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old Review

Balvenie 21 Year Old Portwood A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to go to The Balvenie Fete in Edinburgh. This event allowed casual passers by to pop in, sample some The Balvenie whiskies and learn a bit more about whisky, and The Balvenie.

There was also a prebookable tasting for The Balvenie Warehouse 24 members which went through 5 drams from their fantastic range, this was one of those drams.

This bottling was finished in thirty year old port pipes and is totally my type of dram. For anyone who knows me will know i have a bit of a fascination for port finished and matured whiskies and this little cracker is definitely worth a try.

This is the standard version available in UK retail at 40% ABV there is also a Travel retail version which is bottled at 47.6% ABV and worth hunting out.

You can pick up one of these crackers from Master Of Malt

If you haven't already i'd very much suggest you sign up to The Balvenie Warehouse 24 for some fantastic offeres and experiences.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

now thats a nose, homemade plum jam with a very sugary base, vanilla essence and old fashioned floral gums with mixed fruit, the filling from a christmas mince pie, and a treacle sauce coating.

Palate

Butterscotch sauce comes thick and fast followed by squeezed morello cherries and treacle scones

Finish

Very smooth and quite syrupy, glorious.
