Lagavulin 1995 Distillers Edition Review

Lagavulin 1995 Distillers Edition I've been through a few of Diageo's Distillers Edition bottles and been very impressed with them thus far and this Lagavulin 1995 Distillers Edition is no different.

the combination of jam like sweetness from the Pedro Ximinex casks and the smoky Lagavulin really works well.

Although this edition has now been replaced by the 1996 version it is still available from The Whisky Exchange

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

A cursory whiff of the glass gives plum jam and sweet apricot jam fruit notes, The smoke then begins to come though accompanied by a whiff of the beach, that salty sandy sea air that floats about on the beaches of Islay. The smoke is there but restrained and not overwheling, it's cigar ash and the sweet buning wood notes of a garden chimenia with burning kindling.

Palate

initially a spike of cigar ash and burning kindling with the bodily warmth to go with it, the sweetness of the plum and apricot jam comes through again

Finish

This would keep you warm for a full winters night.
