Tomintoul Vintage 1981 Review

Tomintoul Vintage 1981 Tasted as part of a Twitter Tasting organised by Tomintoul where the the 21 Year Old and Vintage 1981 were tasted by a group of whisky lovers from all around the world.

I've had a good number of expressions from Tomintoul now (reviews here) and been hugely impressed with the quality.

This 1981 vintage (not quite as old as me) is a real old gent of a dram and shows clearly how much care love and attention that Tomintoul are putting into their whisky. Not cheap but definitely worth it at £225 a bottle from Master of Malt

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

There's a real comfort feel about this, feels very "grown up" again more oak but lighter and more sap like, freshly scraped vanilla pod and maple syrup smooothie, there's hints of oriental spices and again some bitter cocoa powder

Palate

oh my this is heavenly, gentle at first with spiced fruits, it's like someone has taken a bowl of sweet fruit and put cloves into them all, coconut milk and sweet chili chicken with sticky toffee pudding.

Finish

toffee and spiced fruit
