Talisker Port Ruighe Review

Talisker Port Ruighe The sample of this whisky came directly from Talisker so thank you to you guys for the sample. Initially i was really excited about this dram as i'm a big fan of port finishes, however when i tried this initially at Edinburgh Whisky Festival i was quite disappointed and found it very cheesey, but then when i re-sampled at home i found it was still a little cheesey on the nose but no-where near as bad as i remembered from the Festival, i'm going to put that down to a tainted glass at the festival.

It's still got a little cheese there but nothing that stops me wanting this anymore and it's made it onto my list of bottles to buy soon.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Smoke and seasalt come first, that typical talisker note is there before a sweetness that eludes to more and edges of plum and strawberry jam, the backing notes are however quite lactic with bavarian smoked cheese.

Palate

Fruit with a lot of plum and homemade strawberry jam, sweet but with a salty sea spray like eating a jam piece at the pier.

Finish

homemade strawberry jam and sea spray
