Glenrothes 1998 Vintage Review

Glenrothes 1998 This was the first of the Glenrothes bottles which were bottled as a "vintage" originally the 1995 was meant to be first but wasn't quite ready, I really loved the initial nose from this dram and it didnt disappoint from there.

Another cracking Twitter Tasting, this time I was invited in by Amanda from The Whisky Lounge to a Glenrothes Vintages Twitter Tasting.

Other than the Select Reserve I've not had a huge amount of dealings with Glenrothes so i was really looking forward to this.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

From the minute i opened the sample bottle i was getting some lovely syrupy sweet notes surrounding me, some definite dried fruit sherry notes in here which mix with the syrup and some added fresh vanilla pod. Given a little time it opens up with some tropical dried pineapple and like a tin of peaches in syrup. There's a touch of chocolate in here also when left for 15/20 mins in the glass.

Palate

The palate is sweet fruit like the fruit salad sweets i used to eat as a kid and more of the syrup, also has a touch of white wine to it,

Finish

Has a bit of heat in it, like the kick from cinnamon on a home made apple pie.
