Auchentoshan Classic Review

Auchentoshan Classic I'm a huge fan of the Cask Strength Sibling to this the Auchentoshan Valinch (Both 2011 and 2012 bottlings have been brilliant) which is one of my favourite ever whiskies and i bought this Auchentoshan Classic after trying the Valinch first.

I was surprised to find that at the distillery tour it's the Auchentoshan 12 Year Old that's poured as the tasting dram and not this one, the 12 Year Old is a cracking dram but it's usually the "standard" or lower end bottlings that are used on standard tours.

I'm a big fan of this distillery and want to spend more time going through the expressions, i also want to do the tour again and do the "bottle your own" to try some more cask strength Auchie.

You can get Auchentoshan Classic in a lot of Supermarkets now or from specialists like The Whisky Exchange

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

the nose on this really is lovely there's a lot of vanilla here, fresh vanilla like that scraped from a fresh vanilla pod, there;s light pine and oak in here too, the background notes are of crunchy apples and touches of cardboard.

Palate

More of the oak and sweet vanilla, crunchy apples and touches of cardboard again, quite drying.

Finish

drying with sweet vanilla and bitter crunchy apples.
