Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban (12 yr) Review

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban My experiences thus far with Port finished whiskies have pretty much unanimously been positive so i was really looking forward to the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban when i received it as a present at Christmas.

Essentially like most of the Glenmorangie finished range these are matured for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks beforebeing finished for a further 2 years in ex port pipes.

I enjoy port finishes much more than most of the wine finishes, i think it's the thicker, fruitier, more jam like qualities that i like about it, and the fact i enjoy a glass or two of port on occasion also.

This cracking dram can be picked up from Master of Malt.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

my first words were om nom nom nom this whisky really smells good enough to eat, it's like a redcurrent jam with dark mollasses sugar and sweet oakyness, touches of menthol and acetone mix nicely to give it a really rounded nose

Palate

more of the redcurrent jam sweetness on the tongue along with a gentle amount of menthol and bitter dark chocolate.

Finish

smooth and silky with a heartwarming afterglow
