Ardbeg / Ardbeg

Ardbeg Galileo Review

Ardbeg Galileo I had decided not to buy a bottle of this at release, it had sold out it's entire allocation on pre-order. On that basis a wee thank you to my (has to stay anonymous) friend for the offical sample.

The official information states "Specially bottled to celebrate the most audacious adventure ever undertaken by Ardbeg, this dram fires up your taste buds with spectacular aromas and tastes." and this is bottled to celebrate some Ardbeg Whisky being sent into space as part of an experiment on the International Space Station.

A mix of standard Ardbeg and Ardbeg which has been matured for some time is some Ex-Marsala casks.

Very difficult to get a hold of and the price has gone through the roof, The Whisky Barrel do have some though.

Thank you to Ardbeg for the Official Sample

Tasting Notes & Details

The instant hit of coal tar, with touches of sweet pipe smoke eminds me of grandparents. The smoke subsides quickly and is replaced by sweet dew and tropical fruits pineapple, papaya, mango. There's a hint of freshly made caramel in there too

very sweet, fruity, coal tar and pipe smoke again, more of the fruits with some added banana and red grapes

Quite sweet, almost sickly sweet, couldn't drink a lot of this, more coal tar
