Laphroaig / Berry Bros and Rudd

Williamson 2012 8 Year Old Berry Bros & Rudd Review

Williamson 2012 8 Year Old Berry Bros & RuddAnother from the Berry Bros and Rudd tasting pack with Royal Mile Whiskies is this not so mystery Islay.

I've had Williamson before but it was previously described as a Blended Malt, or teasponned malt, with most knowing it was Laphroaig with a teaspoon of something else, but more recently these have been sold as single cask single malt meaning the teaspooning is not happening and these are just Laphraoig not wanting the name used.

THis reminds me of so manu more recent Laphraoigs with a sublte medicial note and creasote and inviting nose but the palate is hugely ashy, something that moves it further and further from those sweet tropical notes of the 1960s and 1970s Laphroaig.

if you like your whisky big strong woody and ashy this is for you, if you want notes of that old Laphroaig sweetness, then i would be looking for other options.

I'd suggest grabbing one of these soon if you are interested as i can't believe Royal Mile Whiskies have not sold out of this yet.

Tasting Notes & Details

more medicinial than smoky, creasote, earthy, honey roast vegetables, tangy fruit peels, lots of hints of root veg and a little dirty
