SMWS 26.145 Mood-Lifting Sanctuary Review

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyThe first of five reviews of bottlings from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's The Gathering tasting Set, this Highland dram was my first of the set.

An 8 year old dram from a 2nd Fill ex Bourbon barrel this just sounds like it might be right up my street.

The nose of this dram really is mood lifting, it instantly makes you smile, it's familiar and comforting, whilst also a little spikey and prickly from the young spirit, The palate is a bit more heavy and full on with the spice, i genuinely liked the nose better, but this is tasty and sippable, although i think at would go great with a robust pork meal.

You can still get these sets directly from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

Thanks to The Scotch Malt Whisky Society for the official sample pack

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Well i like this, i like this a lot, there's a good mix of fresh grassy notes, lovely orangey citrus fruit notes, then some toasted oak and grated fresh ginger, a hint of pencil shaving and a touch of freshly waxed furniture add to the appeal

Palate

Spiced apples and waxy apple peel up first, hints of ginger and that toasted oak again, sweeter notes coming in the background with warming chinese five spice coming in also

Finish

Long lasting and very warming, this is a tasty dram that packs a punch
