A Fine Christmas Malt 10 Year Old (2019) Review

A Fine Christmas Malt 10 Year Old (2019) What is now an annual tradition is the release of A Fine Christmas Malt from the awesome guys at The Whisky Exchange and this is the 2019 expression.

This years expression comes from the Linkwood distillery and has been aged for 10 years and was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks to produce what they are describing as a sweet and spicy Christmas treat.

Linkwood is a distillery i enjoy, and i tend to always have this two sides of the same coin thing with it all the time, always a sweet element and always a meaty element, this time quite gamey.

I prefer the palate to the nose on this one as the palate suits my ex-bourbon loving palate, the nose is very much ex-sherry in comparison although still filled with lots of tasty flavours. Very drinkable this dram and well priced too, go get one...

Available to purchase exclusively from The Whisky Exchange.

Thanks to The Whisky Exchange for the sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Straight off the bat i'm getting those ex-sherry notes coming through strong, prune juice and caramelised figs, sticky treacle scones, light wax furniture polish notes, a hint of acetone and just a touch of window putty

Palate

Much softer, ex-bourbon, notes on the palate, tropical fruit salad, with a light whipped creamy topping, hits along with more acetone, some ginger heat, oak sauce, something a little more blackcurrent coming through and a touch of something more gamey (can't decide between duck or something more like partridge or pheasant here) some toasted butter nutty notes coming through as i make my way through the glass.

Finish

Rich and gamey, sweet and spicy (well more hot than spicy) and a buttery nuttiness.
