Kininvie Works KVSM001 Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review

Kininvie Works KVSM001 Single Malt Scotch WhiskyI've had a few Kininvie drams over the years although they have all been pretty well aged with the 17 year old being a personal favourite.

This dram, distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2019 and matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks this is one of the new Kininvie Works bottlings appearing on Amazon.

These are part of an experiment where the staff at Kininvie Try something different, in this case the whisky was triple distilled, and the whisky was produced to these parameters for a week to allow the comparison to other methods.

Lots of apple in here, it's definitely got that typical Kininvie note to it, sweet, fruity, juicy and right up my street. The triple distillation for me here has allowed it to feel quite easy on the palate although it adds a bit more spice also.

Spiced apple strudel in a glass for this price, for me, is pretty good and I would be happy to drink through a few of these.

You can buy this, and the others in this series, from Amazon for £35 a bottle.

Many thanks to William Grant for the generous official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Straight away I get a lot of orchard fruits, apples more than pears, it's a definite apple strudel note with light pastry, once settled in the glass it goes more pear drop like, definitely typically Kininvie from my recollections, cereal bites come through quite thick also.

The palate initially is much spicier than I was expecting, tangy fruit peels, almost apple based sweet mincemeat with apple peel at the forefront, with a touch of water it is much sweeter, and those apple notes come out as apple chutney with some sugary notes.

Sweet juicy and apple notes with apple strudel coming in again
