Compass Box Affinity Review

Compass Box Affinity Compass Box have always been at the forefront of doing interesting things with whisky, from Orangerie to the original Spice Tree and now we have Affinity.

A blend of different Scotch Whisky parcels has been blended with some Calvados Pays D'auge Domaine Christian Drouin (37.5% of the total volume) to make a dram that celebrates the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France.

I've not had much Calvados over the years but on the basis of my love for Cider and i really enjoyed the somerset apple cider brandy which is a similar product, so i think this would work really well together.

I' a little disappointed in this, i thought it was going to be much more appley than it is, theres a lot of wood spice on the palate and it has an element of sweetness but it doesn' have the juicy sweet fruity notes i was expecting, or hoping for.

Certainly worth trying though, but i don't think i could drink a full bottle of this.

Thanks to Compass Box for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

There is a hint of apple pie in here but i really was expecting the apple notes to be quite prominent straight away but they aren't as strong as i was expecting. Gentle apple bubblegum vanilla infused sugar notes, the apple increases with time and theres more undercooked pastry and something a little plasticy in there also (almost plasticine)

Really soft initially, floral gums and tinned pears and apples in a sweet vanilla syrup, a gentle woody tang grows on the palate ending with a hint of wood spice and ground pepper smothered in sweet juicy fruity syrup.

Peppery, sweet, juicy
