Glendronach 1989 Cask 2662 Oloroso Sherry Butt Review

Glendronach 1989 Cask 2662 Oloroso Sherry Butt I've had this sample for a while, along with a fair few other Glendronach samples but I struggle occasionally with issues from sherry cask matured whiskies as i find i'm pretty susceptible to finding rubbery notes in them.

I also had a bit of a delay due to finding time around work and i really just wasn't finding the time to sit and sample whiskies, and so found myself with a bit of a silly backlog which i'm trying to work my way through.

Surprisingly orange filled both on the nose and the palate, lots of fruity sweet notes and coffee and cappuccino, the palate is soft initially but comes back with the fruit notes, a pretty tasty example of a sherried dram, I really enjoyed this.

Unlikely to be available anywhere now so try the auction sites if you want to find one.

Thanks to Glendronach for the sample

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Orange peel and zest, thick breakfast orange marmalade, light vanilla cream, demerers sugar and light leather, touches of milky coffee maybe heading toward a cappuccino, acetone and light hints of beeswax furniture polish, a hint of mixed fruit skins (i know this doesn't sound great but a almost like a food bin filled with different fruit peel

Palate

Much softer than I was expecting from the nose, there is some fruit but those orange notes are more in the distance, like an orange and melon combo with more melon, there's a hint of that cappuccino and some wholemeal toast, a touch of nutmeg coming through also

Finish

Orange and melon with cappuccino and wholemeal toast.
