Glen Moray Classic Cabernet Cask Finish Review

Glen Moray Classic Cabernet Cask Finish Like many distilleries nowadays Glen Moray, which i will openly admit here is one of my all time favourite distilleries, has been looking at different cask types for maturing their whisky in other than the normal ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and this one has been finished in an ex-Cabernet Sauvignon wine cask.

Now anyone who has read this blog more than a couple of times will know red wine is not my thing and i tend not to enjoy many red wine matured or finished whiskies (although that Bruichladdich Rioja is still in my top 5 drams ever) so i was a little apprehensive about this one.

Wine gums, liquorice allsorts and dark fruits are definitely notes i can cope with though so i founf this really quite interesting. There is a slightly tannic metallic note on the nose that had me worried as thats the elemend or red wine i dislike, but the soft fruity palate really works on this.

The finish is short, but tasty, and maybe just maybe i'm not so afraid of red wine casks now.

Tasting Notes & Details

Oh straight away this is mouth watering, Maynards Wine Gums, then those blue bobbly sweets from liquorice allsorts, dark fruits, blueberries and blackberries, gentle oak and a touch of something tannic

Much softer than i was expecting from the nose, light tinned fruit (in fruit juice), then a little liquorice allsorts, and a touch blueberry

Short, soft, easy
