Loch Lomond 2006 Single Cask Cask No. 40 Review

Loch Lomond 2006 Single Cask Cask No. 40 A single cask bottled by the distillery distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2017 this cask was selected by master blender Michael Henry and bottled at cask strength at 53.1%.

I've got a selection of the core Loch Lomond bottlings to be reviewed but i keep jumping across to these interesting bottlings so i've given myself a slap and promise to look at the standard bottlings in the coming weeks also, but in the meantime this is an utterly delicious drop of very tasty whisky.

Lots of treacle toffee and saline notes that remind me of saltwater taffees that friends brought me back from USA, theres some fruity sweet elements also, green strawberries and lychee for sure, and it just keeps layering lovely flavours as sit and sip and nose.

This is a cracking dram, try everything you can to track one down.

I haven't been able to find this online for sale, so if you see it let me know.

Thanks to Ibon from Loch Lomond Distillers for the sample of this dram.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

My initial thoughts are YUM, first up is a treacle toffee note, then a salty saline element, so it begins to swtich to saltwater taffees, then some tarte fruits, lychee, kiwi, papaya, slightly green strawberries, treacle scones (reminds me of halloween as a kid) some oak leaf sauce and leafy elements also coming through.

Palate

Initially this is really quite salty and coastal, shellfish, the liquid alongside a fresh oyster, briney, then theres a sweetness underneath it, along with toffee caramel, so definitely fruit flavoured salt water taffees again, those green strawberries and a gentle oak wood spice element

Finish

Green strawberries with white pepper and toffee sauce
