Rebel Yell / Rebel Yell

Rebel Yell Small Batch Rye Straight Rye Whiskey Review

Rebel Yell Small Batch Rye Straight Rye Whiskey A tweet tasting of some American Drams, thats certainly something i'm always happy to give a try to and this Rebel Yell tasting was one i really was looking forward to.

This is the Small batch Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye from their range and its around £30 odd a bottle which is seriously affordable. Rye is one of those whiskey types that i'm always a little wary of as i find it sometimes very bready, and i meal wholemeal bread like, which is something i don't like.

This dram is really tasty, dried desicated coconut and dried bana chips, just like the bourbon, waxy vanilla pods and on the palate some tasty apple strudle and peppered steak, this is a dram i'd happily drink much more of.

Pick up a bottle from Master of Malt.

Sampled as part of a twitter tasting organised by The Whisky Wire and some very generous samples.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Lighter than i was expecting, cinnamon sugar, hints of salt and pepper topped bread (tiger bread anyone?) toasted bread, banana loaf

Palate

Spicy, peppered steak and more of that tiger bread, freshly ground pepper, but an orange zest base, vanilla essence rather than fresh vanilla, a touch of grapefruit maybe also.

Finish

Smooths out, sweeter, yum
