Old Pulteney / AD Rattray

Pulteney 10 Year Old Octave Project PX Sherry Octave Finish (AD Rattray) Review

Pulteney 10 Year Old Octave Project PX Sherry Octave Finish (AD Rattray) ) The first of the octave finishes in this series of Pulteney drams from AD Rattray. The awesome whisky magicians at AD Rattray have been doing some experimentation with some casks of Arran, Pulteney and Bunnahabhain, keeping some it as is, and then splitting the rest over four 50 litre octaves made especially for AD Rattray from casks that previously held PX Sherry, Oloroso Sherry, Rioja Wine and Rum.

The PX Sherry has covered all of those tasty tropical fruit and vanilla notes from the bourbon and eased out some of the spice and tang, the lemony notes have gone all strawberry jam and the spices have gone sweeter like cinnamon infused demerera sugar.

This is sweet and fruity, lots of jam notes, then liquorice and doughy scones, seriously tasty stuff and I’m not sure whether I prefer this or the original bourbon barrel, both seriously tasty.

Keep an eye out over the rest of the week for the others in this series

Thanks to AD Rattray for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Wow this is really different from the bourbon barrel, hints of black jacks and liquorice first with fruity strawberry jam notes, edges of sugary sweetness, and light oak leaf sauce.

Fruity strawberry jam scones and more of that black jack/liquorice note, this is light and has masked all the tropical fruit and vanilla, it’s got more summer berry jam notes in there, seriously tasty

Summer berry jam, sweet fruits, some doughy scones.
