Old Pulteney / AD Rattray

Pulteney 10 Year Old Octave Project Oloroso Sherry Octave Finish (AD Rattra Review

Pulteney 10 Year Old Octave Project Oloroso Sherry Octave Finish (AD Rattray) The second of four of the octave finishes in this series of Pulteney drams from AD Rattray is this Oloroso Sherry Octave Finish. The awesome whisky magicians at AD Rattray have been doing some experimentation with some casks of Arran, Pulteney and Bunnahabhain, keeping some it as is, and then splitting the rest over four 50 litre octaves made especially for AD Rattray from casks that previously held PX Sherry, Oloroso Sherry, Rioja Wine and Rum.

The oloroso has really wiped the floor from the original, none of the tasty tropical fruits are here, it’s gone all tame and nutty, and none of the good stuff in the bourbon cask is here, for me its made it too flat and one dimensional, definitely not for me this one.

Keep an eye out over the rest of the week for the others in this series

Pick this up from the official A D Rattray website here.

Thanks to AD Rattray for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Very light and gentle, a real light hint of crushed mixed nuts mainly cashews and corn flakes, light nutty notes and hints of light hints of Dundee cake, and Madeira cake. Again the original tropical fruit and vanilla notes are hidden.

Very light, more Madeira cake and light gentle Dundee cake slices, corn flakes and more crushed nuts, this is light, it’s subdued the notes from the bourbon casks and added a light edge of oriental spices to the tip of the tongue.

Dundee cake and crushed mixed nuts, cashews coming out strongly
