BenRiach 30 Year Old Authenticus Peated Review

BenRiach 30 Year Old Authenticus Peated A 30 year old Peated Benriach, now that sounds like a dram i'm going to absolutely love.

Extending teh 21 and 25 year old authenticus peated range with this 30 year old, i have a real thing for peated Benriach, i absolutely love the Curiositas 10 and this ust sounds right up my street.

Smoky, meaty, burnt ends, sweet meats, BBQ sauce, banish pastries and a lot more, this is seriously tasty. It's let down a touch by quite a short finish, i think at this age going cask strength or batch strength would have been the right thing to do but it's still a hugely entertaining lovely dram, and one that would make a great special occasion dram.

Available at specialists such as Master of Malt and others.

Thanks to Benriach for the sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Burnt ends, a meat oven that’s not been cleaned in a month or two, sweet charred bbq ribs, heather honey, vanilla Danish pastries, sweet meats, bbq’d venison loin, quite gamey

Palate

The peat comes across much sweeter and less earthier than expected, coal dust, coal tar soap, smoke, smoked meats, burnt ends with a sticky honey bbq glaze and a touch of cigar ash and mushroom risotto

Finish

Quite short, not as wood spice as I expected, ashy and earthy
