Miyagikyo / Nikka

Miyagikyo Fruity and Rich Review

Miyagikyo Fruity and Rich Just before Christmas I was very lucky to receive two samples of ome amazing Japanese whisky from the friendly folks at Dekanta, this is the first of those.

This Miyagikyo Fruity and Rich is part of the Nikka family of whiskies, the distillery opening in 1969 and having this lovely fruity style.

I believe these are normally Distilelry Exclusive or available through specialists like Dekanta, this is seriously fruity and syrupy with hints of spice, an utterly delicious dram and one i wish i had a much larger quantity of.

Available to buy from Dekanta

Thanks again to Dekanta for the sample

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Tinned Golden syrup , gentle red liquorice laces, sweeter rather than strong liquorice, wet oak and toasted banana, pine needle, left to settle there’s a tasty danish style cinnamon bun with icing.

Palate

Spiced liquorice, very unlike Scotch, pickled ginger, fresh pine needles, pepper and creamy butter, a touch of soapiness

Finish

Creamy, malty, pepper
