Glenrothes 1989 Cask #8172 (The Single Malts of Scotland) Review

Glenrothes 1989 Cask #8172 (The Single Malts of Scotland) This single cask Glenothes comes from The Single Malts of Scotland range of single cask drams, its an old lady of a dram and one i really enjoyed.

Glenrothes can sometimes be a bit hit or miss for me, but this one is a straight bullseye .

There's a bittersweet element here, but the sweetness works well enough to allow it to be complex and interesting, fruity, fresh and with woody spice, i like this.

Appears to have sold out at The Whisky Exchange but they do have it in their "perfect measure" size here.

Thanks to Speciality Brands for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

There's a sweetness initially then brambles, gooseberries and a touch of greengages, rhubarb stalks freshly cut from the ground, a slight bittersweet element, there's a gentle sugar water and edges of sweet tea coming through.

Palate

Again it's a touch bitter initially, bitter fruits and then there's a saltiness also, sweetness on the sides of the tongue, sugary and fresh fruits.

Finish

Sweet then warming spiciness
