Benromach Sassicaia Wood Finish 2009 Review

BenRiach 2007 (cask 105) This sweet and smoky delight is something i am very interested in, it's taken me however, a bit of time to get round to.

Initially matured in bourbon before being finished for 28 months casks which previously held Sassicaia wine from Tuscany.

Really interesting this is much smokier than i was expecting but full of sweetness also, this is a cracking dram and great value too.

Already seems to have sold out from Specialists like Master of Malt but there may be one or two still around.

Thanks to Benromach for the official sample.

Nose

Doughy brown bread and malt loaf with a red currant jam topping, and red currant battered fritters, light cinder toffee and a classic dunnage warehouse note.

Palate

Those juicy red currants are back with aplomb, juicy fruit chewing gum joins it, thick and oily mouthfeel, cinder toffee and barley sugars round off the palate

Finish

Char and ash on the finish
