Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 1 Review

Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 1 There have been a number of peated benriachs over the years but this is the first batch of their Cask Strength non age statement version and i was really excited to try it.

The smoke comes across as quite sweet and honeyed, more manuka honey than the earthy dirty peat from islay, it's one of those drams that you expect one thing and it comes at you with a sweet soft side you didnt expect, delicious stuff, although the finish is HUGELY ashy so beware.

You can pick up a bottle from Specialists like Master of Malt.

Thanks to The Benriach for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

This is really interesting it's smoky but sweet and honeyed (Manuka honey) and heathery and creamy it comes across like a scone with jam and clotted cream, barley sugars hiding in the background, with time in the glass some hot radiator notes come through also along with hints of wood smoke

Palate

Sweet and honeyed, Manuka honey for sure, sweet heather and barley coated in charcoal dust

Finish

Ashy very very ashy
