Lagavulin 18yr Feis Ile 2016 Review

Lagavulin 18yr Feis Ile 2016 Many thanks to my very good friend Steve Prentice from Somerset Whisky for the kind sample of this Lagavulin 18 year old which was the Feis Ile bottling for Lagavulin in 2016.

A combination of European and American Oak this is an interesting dram that i was very keen on trying.

This Feis ile exclusive 2016 bottling is just huge, the nose leads you to sweet vegetable notes along that that trademark smoke, then the palate adds even more sugary sweetness before a huge swath of smoke goes on into the finish,

The finish is huge and ongoing, I was still tasting it 2/3 minutes after the first sip, but it's tasty and juicy too, this is a sublime dram and reminds me why Lagavulin is such an awesome distillery,

Available to buy from auctions or it is also available from Master of Malt

Tasting Notes & Details

That sweet earthy smoke is there instantly, it's sweet honey roast vegetables, parsnips, beetroot, onion and peppers, with a large dose of wood smoke and cooked potato skins, with cheese and bacon,

Sweetness comes first, granular sugary sweet, then charred wood and gentle wood smoke, more of the charred roasted vegetables again, sweet, smoky, and tingle of Chinese 5 spice yum

Sweet smoky, huge ongoing smoke and a touch of gentle spices
