Mortlach / Signatory

Mortlach 1998 (Signatory Vintage Whisky Exchange Exclusive) Review

Mortlach 1998 (Signatory Vintage Whisky Exchange Exclusive) Another Exclusive to the chaps at The Whisky Exchange this 18 year old Mortlach was finished in a Sherry Butt for 54 months.

Yummy juicy fruit notes from the underlying first time in bourbon and the sherry finish adding complexity and spice, seriously tasty.

A really good example of a sherry finish that doesn't have any of that nasty rubberyness i get with some, this is really good and definitely my cup of tea.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Interestingly a first hint of tinned fruit salad in syrup then the curtain of sherry covers it over with dried fruits, apricot and mango, raisins. A wave of light leather and a prickle of spice with a cinnamon dusting

Palate

Sweet juicy fruit chewing gum, sweet tropical fruit notes, fresh grape juice and raisins and sultanas in a 5 spice dusting with new leather and chantilly cream, a touch of chalky crushed edinburgh rock rounds it off.

Finish

Juicy, light cinnamon and leather
