Jim Beam Distillers Masterpiece Review

Jim Beam Distillers Masterpiece I was lucky enough to be gifted for review a Drinks by the Dram American Whiskey Advent Calendar and this Jim Beam Distillers Masterpiece is one of the drams from that calendar.

This was the special dram in the Calendar, priced at over £350 a bottle and being a selected well saged bourbon finished in PX casks, this sounded on paper like it would be right up my street.

But... Pencil shavings and cask char were the predominant flavours, and there wasnt enough of the sweet PX notes that come with most whiskies matured, or finished, in PX. It's a decent dram but it's anything but a masterpiece and definitely not good VFM at £350 a bottle, there are much better bottles of Bourbon for under 1/7th of the price.

Buy from specialists like Master of Malt

Thanks to Drinks by the Dram for the calendar.

Tasting Notes & Details

Lots of black currant cordial, sawdust, pencil sharpenings, a hint of cask char, sweet fruits hide in here too, BBQ charred blackberries, blueberry muffin, hints of ash, very unlike any Bourbon I've ever tried.

There's the sweet bourbon influence, raspberry / blackberry creamy pavlova, vanilla slice with BBQ charred blackberries, pencil shavings, cornflakes and gentle cereal notes.

Sweet, pencil shavings, light Cask char
