Laphroaig Hand Fill 1998 - 2016 Review

Laphroaig Hand Fill 1998 - 2016 I'm quite lucky to have a number of good friends who spend a lot of time in and around whisky, and we all tend to share our wares a little so when my good friend Chris Waugh offered me a sample of this 1998 single cask Laphroaig i jumped at the chance.

Laphroaig was one of the big drams that I loved right from the start and 1998 is quite an important year in that as actually the 21st January 1998 is the date on my Friends on Laphroaig membership certificate meaning i've now be a Friend of Laphroaig for over 19 years.

This is just exactly the type of dram you want from a single cask Laphroaig, smoky, smouldering, vegetal, honeyed, amazing dram, one of the best Laphroaigs i've ever had.

Tasting Notes & Details

Sweet medicinal smoke a mix of bandages, gentle wood burning smoke and vanilla cream, hints of menthol and eucalyptus leave, clears the sinuses, quite fresh for laphroaig, grassy notes coming through strongly.

Quite woody, grassy and a touch astringent, smouldering wood and honey roast root vegetables (parsnips, sweet potato, carrots and beetroot) with a hint of mint sauce

Grows quite menthol like. Smouldering wood and more of those vegetables
