Mount Gay Rum / Mount Gay Rum

Mount Gay Black Barrel Review

Mount Gay Rum Tweet Tasting First up in thie tasting hosted by The Floating Rum Shack and Mount Gay Rum was the Mount Gay Black Bottle.

Released in 2014 and a combination(blend) of both pot still and column still distillate matured in heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels.

This is tasty stuff and although there is a kick of spice that might not suit some it's a great sipping rum, and i expect it would be fabulous in cocktails too.

Available to buy in many supermarkets or from specialists like The Whisky Exchange

Thank you to the The Floating Rum Shack and Mount Gay Rum for including me on this tasting.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

A lot more oak that i thought i would get initially, sugary sweet with bitter orange peel, definite oak spice influence, vanilla essence and a hint of some fruity sweets

Palate

quite soft initially, treacle toffees and Halloween treacle scones, then oak wood spices, hints of aromatic leaf, ripe banana and then a dry tannic mouthfeel

Finish

dry, oaky, apricot jam, interesting, long
