Craigellachie / Hunter Laing

Craigellachie 8yr (Hepburns Choice) Review

Craigellachie 8yr (Hepburns Choice) This is another bottle from the Hunter Laing Hepburns Choice 20cl range, a range of young, age statement, whiskies.

The hepburns choice range are bottled as 20cl and 70cl although there does sometimes appear to be a difference between the two in ages etc so I believe they may actually be different casks, at least sometimes, which are bottled either wholly as 20cl or wholly as 70cl bottles.

This 8 year old Craigellachie was definitely in some form of ex bourbon cask, from the very pale colour i would say a refill cask.

This is definitely Craigellachie, the sulphur notes are hugely apparant straight away and will put some people off, there's definite struck match in here along with an eggy note, some will definitely turn their nose up at this dram, but there's fruit too, fig and plum, with Damson and Sloe berries, and for me it really is quite pleasantly drinkable, but those with an aversion to anything with even a hint of sulphur should stay away.

Available to purchase from Robert Graham 1874.
