Ardbeg Dark Cove (Standard Release) Review

Ardbeg Dark COve The 2016 Feis Ile release from Ardbeg is this Dark Cove, the committee release was released a few weeks ago at a higher ABV and this release will officially be available to buy on Ardbeg Day on the 28th May.

This is smoky and juicy, it's like those wonderful notes you want from uigeadail but on a sweeter more fig like level with the smoke tamed a little.

I like this, a lot, it's more expensive than uigeadail and I can't really decide whether it's worth the extra or not. The extra sweetness works for me it's really my type of dram, and I will pick up a bottle of this as i do appreciate the fact it's limited release (it's available for a limited time so limited) and will pay that extra for it.

Thanks to Ardbeg for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

The smoke is there but it's lighter than I was expecting, then the fruity juicy dried fruits figs and plums, peaches and prunes come through, on a nest on farmyard hay, toasted brown bread and crushed lemongrass, with a light earthy undertone.

Palate

So sweet and tasty, those fruits in gentle earthy smoke are there, figs and juicy dried fruits, apricots and plums, then the earthy smoke grows with a hint of spice and grassy hay.

Finish

Slightly spicy and fruity, tasty
