Laphroaig Lore Review

Laphroaig Lore The latest release from Laphroaig this dram was revealed by Laphroaig's very own John Campbell as having whiskies 7 year old 21 year old and 3 other ages in between.

The PR (here) basically said this was Johns creation which represents Laphroaig itself. I've seen a few differing opinions on this and my first impression, after a few drams, wasn't great so time to try it again fresh.

Tasted blind I would not pick this as a Laphroaig there's none of that typical antiseptic medicinal smoke it's much more chalky.

This is actually a really nice dram, but it's neither a good example of what Laphroaig should be nor is it worth the £85 price tag.

For me this sits around the same range as the Laphroaig Select and in fact I'd actually buy the select in front of this.

Thanks to Laphroaig for the official sample (tried from both the sample and the bottle I bought and shared with friends)

Tasting Notes & Details

Light sweet chalky smoke, much lighter than I'd expect from Laphroaig, more sweet Edinburgh rock with a light citrus note, there's none of those medicinal smoke notes that Laphroaig are famous for.

Tangy smoke, chalky and with hints of sweet citrus notes, very light with light Edinburgh rock, some bbq notes and light ash, some farmyard hay and sweet grass

Sweet and light ash but very short
