Kilchoman Club Release - Fourth Edition Review

Kilchoman Club Release - Fourth Edition The 4th club release from Kilchoman featuring casks 740 & 790/2010 and 28/2011 and bottled 9/11/15 and matured in ex-Sauternes casks.

I excited about this as not only do I enjoy Kilchoman matured in sweet casks but I also tend to love whiskies matured in Sauternes, I also tend to love Sauternes wine also.

Other than the initial hit to the palate this hides the 60% ABV really well, this is really quite light, well in terms of an Islay peat monster anyway, and quite easy on the palate, the Sauternes has smoothed out any wrinkles and given this a hint of super smooth silky Galaxy milk chocolate.

Delicious stuff and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes in 2016 from Kilchoman.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

An initial note of chalky sweet smoke, like a combination of bbq smoke and Edinburgh Rock, wafts into my nose followed by a sweet light fruity note which is like tinned fruit without the light syrup, there's a light galaxy milk chocolate note in here also.

Palate

The ABV hits in hard first before the smoke comes, it's countryside cottage chimney smoke but it's wrapped in silky smooth Galaxy milk chocolate, light tinned fruits hiding in the background.

Finish

Light and silky smooth
