Kilchoman Madiera Cask 2011-2015 Review

Kilchoman Madiera Cask Another sweet cask matured Kilchoman this time a 4 year old (ish) whisky matured in ex Madiera casks.

This is another one I'm really looking forward to trying as i do enjoy sweet Madiera matured whiskies and the 3rd club release was matured in Madiera and this sounds yet again right up my street.

The mix of smoke and sweet juicy fruit notes and waxy orange peel works really well in this dram, it's light and not as smoky on the nose or palate as I was expecting, having been tamed a little by the madiera, it's an absolute delight to drink though.

Kilchoman seem to be doing it right, I can't wait to see what else they have in store.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Initially dipping the nose into the glass the first note that comes is sweetness, then there's a hint of smoke coming in also, it's really , sweet toffee apples and orange peel oil, waxy and gently oily, this is sweet and juicy and nowhere near as smoky as I would have expected.

Palate

Liquorice and smoke come first but it's not too strong on the liquorice (which suits me) then waxy orange peel oils, menthol and eucalyptus losenges, then sweet juicy toffee apples.

Finish

sweet juicy and menthol
