Rock Oyster Cask Strength (Douglas Laing) Review

Rock Oyster Cask Strength The amazing drinks geniuses at Douglas Laing recently announced this Cask Strength version of Rock Oyster from their Remarkable Malts series so really excited to try this.

It's not the first time Douglas Laing have upped the ante on their drama with both Big Peat (Christmas editions) and Scallywag having cask strength versions also, hopefully a not so Timorous Beastie coming soon too.

This is a big powerful dram that really does punch strong, it's filled with smoke and fabulous fruity notes, aniseed comes through, something I'm not really a fan of normally but it works here, sweet candyfloss balances this out.

For such big powerful flavours it's very well balanced with fruit and candyfloss, big beautiful flavours this is fabulous.

Available to buy from specialists or directly from the Douglas Laing online shop.

Thanks to the awesome Douglas Laing for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

First up is a blast of aniseed infused cottage smoke with big wafts of toasted Doreen malt loaf and hints of mixed dried fruits, some fruity boiled sweets and splashes of sea salt, chip shop salty chips and candyfloss

Palate

Wow the smoke hits you had here, it's a surprise after the nose to get such big peat smoke notes in here. Sea salt coated chip shop chips and coal tar, sweet citrus notes come through with hints of aniseed and dried fruits coming up in the background.

Big powerful sea salt and candyfloss sweetness
