Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7 Year Old Bourbon Review

Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7 Year Old Bourbon Yup another dram that isn't Scotch Whisky, this time another bourbon, it's always good to see what else is out there and I drink enough whisky to be happy sitting sipping on these also for a change.

The name suggests it may be more corn and wheat than corn and rye but you never know, lets dive in and see...

Oh yeah there's rye in here, spicy and tangy, lovely stuff, very drinkable and very interesting as I really expected more spice on the palate from the nose.

The official notes say 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malt so definitely the rye giving it the spicy edge.

Available from spirits specialists like Master of Malt

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

First sniff makes me say wheat as its sweet on the nose, that woody oaky vanilla comes through with some light cask, char smokiness, but then it hits, ginger snaps with a cinnamon sugar dusting

Palate

Much sweeter than the nose, there's still a tang of spice near the end of the mouthfeel but it's more salted caramel and bitter oranges, that smoky cask, char comes through again with a hint of marzipan and sugared almonds.

Finish

Sweet to spicy and tangy, very moreish though
