Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Red Wine Cask Finish Review

Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Red Wine Cask Finish This expression is finished in oak casks that were once used to produce the complex, velvety wines of South America..

I noticed recently that i’ve not reviewed a huge amount of Glenfiddich drams and this is part of a wee boost to try to resolve that.

And there’s those red wine notes i’m not keen on, the metallic tannins that come with some red wines just aren’t for me, the nose had promise, the palate, some elements i enjoyed but the tannins just ruined this for me.

Afraid it’s not one I would buy, but if you like red wine, this is definitely one you should have a try of.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Wild mixed berries, tangy raspberries, sweet strawberries and redcurrants mix with a deeper velvety grape note, almost dried fruit, quite sherry like, oaky wood sap, sweet but woody, and smores and marshmallows.

Palate

spicy first, cinnamon and nutmeg, winter spices, more of the berries and dried fruits, a hint of metallic tannic notes gets stronger the longer its held in the mouth

Finish

tannic, spicy, dried fruits.
