Port Askaig 100 Proof Review

Port Askaig 100 Proof Port Askaig from Speciality Drinks is a secret single malt from Islay which is released in non age statement batches, this one being at 100 UK Proof, or 57.1%.

This is my first time trying Port Askaig, lots of rumours out in the wilds of the Internet as to what distillery this is from, but I'm not getting in on that conversation.

Waxy and lemony, I quite like this, I could guess at a distillery but I'd probably be way off, what I can say is that this is very drinkable and does exactly what it says on the tin.

I really need to look more into this range of drams.

Thanks to the kind folks at Speciality Drinks for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Chalk and lemongrass infused smoke, there's a bit of honey roast vegetables, there's quite a clean and fresh note underlying that's almost lemon kitchen cleaner, hints of acetone and coal tar lying in the background.

Palate

Chalky but very sweet honey roast vegetables, lemongrass and peppery, hints of acetone, coal, tar and the smoke has become very sweet and waxy.

Finish

Sweet, peppery and with coal tar and lemons.
