Loch Lomond 1996 (Murray McDavid Select Grain) Review

Murray McDavid Select Grain (Loch Lomond) Back in July I managed to miss the Twitter tasting for this range of Murray McDavid drams due to being held up at work and it's taken me a while to catch up and get to these drams.

This Loch Lomond 1996 single grain whisky, is from a distillery I've not had much from and I'm really excited to try it. I'm also a big fan of grain whiskies so this 1996 vintage sample I'm hoping is going to be great.

The nose didn't inspire me but the palate is exactly what I want it to be, it's sweet but has an edge of spice without the heat, it's citrus fruits and spices it's an awesome mix of sweet and spicy, very much tasty and balanced.

Thanks to Murray McDavid for including me on this tasting

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Quite a lot of acetone comes first, then treacle covered doughy scones, lots of spices, hints of light syrup and again more doughy bread and scones.

Palate

Sweet and spicy but not too hot, lots of lovely juicy fruits, tinned fruit salad in light syrup, hints of spiced oranges, cloves and cinnamon, but not too hot. Very drinkable

Finish

Sweetness from syrup with hints of cloves and citrus
