Linkwood 1990 Burns Malt (The Whisky Barrel) Review

Springbank 1996 Burns Malt (The Whisky Barrel) I have to admit to having not partaken in enough from Linkwood Distillery to know a massive amount about it other than i've liked all the ones i've tried, so this The Whisky Barrel 1990 24yr Burns Malt version really did make me sit up and pay attention.

This won't be for everyone as it's very very sweet but for me it works really well and at around £75 is great bang for your buck.

I really could easily drink through a lot of this as despite being over 50% abv it tastes very tame and gentle

Thanks to The Whisky Barrel for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

There's a gentle note of lightly cooked pork chops in a red wine sauce where the wine has lost that dryness, hints of cranberry sauce and light balsa saw dusty notes, with lemongrass, vanilla essence and artificial sweetener and sweet sugary cream

Palate

Sweet, oh so sugary cream sweet and artificial sweetener, the stuff you get for putting on cereal, and then light fruits of honeydew melon with crushed nutmeg and a touch of Xmas cake spices, so easy and gentle

Finish

Very short and sweet artificial sweetener
