Springbank / The Whisky Barrel

Springbank 1996 Burns Malt (The Whisky Barrel) Review

Springbank 1996 Burns Malt (The Whisky Barrel) There is one distillery that many people have as their holy grail of currently still producing distilleries and that is the Campbeltown distillery of Springbank.

This Whisky Barrel Burns Malt 18 year old bottling has already unfortunately sold out, but keep an eye on the Whisky Barrel site for future releases as this is not the first time they have released a Springbank.

This is seriously drinkable, but not for the feint of heart, it's powerful and peppery and I wish it was still available to buy, this is why Springbank gets such a great name

Thanks to The Whisky Barrel for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

The nose for me starts with hints of gentle malty smoke, dirty engine oil, sherried sweetness and fruit cake ingredients of raisins and sultanas with Demerara sugar and hints of spices, really rich and juicy but with a dirty oily, peaty edge

Sweet juicy fruit chewing gum, dirty oiliness and oodles of spices and pepper , with fruity raisins and prunes, very drinkable but very powerful

Peppery, oily, smoky and fruity
