Balvenie Golden Cask Review

BalvenieMany thanks to my good friend Yoav (@Yoavgel) from the Whisky Gospel blog for this sample of the rum finished Balvenie Golden Cask.

The Whisky Exchange notes say "A special Balvenie originally bottled for the travel retail market, Golden Cask has spent the latter part of its 14 years of maturation in casks that formerly held golden Caribbean rum"

This is fabulous, slightly dusty and oaky, with huge fruity peach in syrup notes and a cracking terrys chocolate orange blast through the palate and finish, i really enjoyed this dram.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

An initial hint if dusty dunnage warehouse and oak followed by a blast of demerera sugar and molasses sweetness, fresh galia melon and tinned peach slices in light syrup a hint of sawdust after time before some Terry's chocolate orange

Palate

Spicy and tangy on the tongue, initially some Lindt chilli chocolate before more citrus fruit and vanilla essence add to the flavours and the Terry's chocolate orange comes back

Finish

Chocolate orange, and vanilla essence with hints of spice
