Tomatin Bottle Your Own 2002 ex bourbon Review

TomatinBack in 2013 I won a wee competition for a VIP tour at Tomatin (full article here) and whilst there i bought a bottle of the Bottle Your Own, ex Bourbon cask.

This cask distilled on 8th March 2002 and bottled by my own fair hand (you can see the pic on the above article) on 8th October 2013 really did take me by surprise at the time, i tried both the ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and preferred the bourbon.

The bottle has since sat in my whisky cupboard waiting patiently for me to open it, which happened with friends hthis Hogmanay, its a fabulous dram, filled with bounty bars and sweet fruity notes, in particular the sweets softfruits, and i love it.

I'm going to assume that this cask is finished now but i'm curious to properly review the sherry cask now also, think i may need to go visit again soon.

Tasting Notes & Details

Initially there's a little dustiness then creamed coconut and Galaxy milk chocolate, this really is a bounty bar in a glass, then there's fruits but not real fruit more the fruitiness from a packet of softfruits and chewits and hints of the light syrup from tinned fruit salad with a light sprinkle of wood spice

Sweet home made bounty bars ( yes I make my own ) with sweet tinned fruit salad and syrup and a sprinkle of mixed spice, some doughy bread mix also and a hint of malt loaf

Sweet doughy bread and bounty bars
