Auchentoshan 1988 Wine Finish Review

Auchentoshan 1988 Wine Cask FinishThanks to Steve (@steveprentice) from Somerset Whisky for sharing some of this lovely 1988 Auchentoshan Wine Finish with me.

Distilled in 1988 then matured in ex bourbon for 8 years this was then transferred into first fill wine barriques from Bordeaux and finished for an amazing 17 years making this a 25 year old dram.

Seriously fruity with all the usual Auchentoshan notes of citrus and vanilla along with darker fruits and some metallic tannic notes. A damn nice dram although maybe a hint too winey for my personal liking.

Available for £250 from The Whisky Exchange

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Light vanilla comes through first with butterscotch angel delight then a slight metallic spice note of cinnamon and ginger on a tin plate with hints of damson jam and blackcurrants and some caramelised Demerara sugar

Palate

Sweet citrus fruits mix with fresh ginger and blackcurrant jam although there's also a slightly metallic note I get from red wine ... Likely tannins

Finish

Sweet blackcurrant jam and warming syrup
