Tomatin 1988 Vintage Port Finish Review

Tomatin 1988 Port Finish Anyone who knows me, knows that i have a real fondness for port matured or port finished whiskies and this is no different as this 1988 vintage port finish which has been added to the Tomatin core range is an absolute belter.

Effectively replacing the 30 year old this 1988 vintage takes the tropical fruit sweetness of the 30 year old and adds layers of plum and a slight hint of grated ginger on the palate and finish.

The 30 year old will always have a place for me and i'm very sad to see it replaced, but this dram really does work for me and i will be going through a bottle or two of it.

you can pick up a bottle of this dram for around £160 by heading over to The Whisky Exchange

Thanks to Jennifer at Tomatin for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

the initial notes i get in this are all very sweet, with fresh sticky honey coated banana and tropical papaya, then lots of sweet victoria plums with freshly scraped vanilla pod and lovely freshly made caramel. I could easily nose this dram all night long, it's just lovely.

Sweet banana chips and manuka honey with lovely juciy honeydew melon, edges of kiwi and papaya, with fresh madagascan vanilla and a scraping of grated ginger
