Tomatin 1988 Port Finish cask 36442 Review

Tomatin Cask Sample Back in October last year when i toured Tomatin distillery (see post here) as a competition winner, I not only had a brilliant day out but also came away with a wee extra.

In my hands was a cask sample, from cask #36442 which was a 1988 vintage Tomatin finished in a port cask. Jennifer at Tomatin knows my love of port finished whiskies and there had been a lot of banter on twitter about port finished whiskies prior to this visit so i was overwhelmed to receive this sample.

I haven't posted this review until now however as this dram is actually the forerunner to the new 1988 Port Finish standard release added to the core range this year and so it only makes sense to compare it to that with this sample being Cask Strength and the other being 46%

Thanks to Jennifer at Tomatin for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

This dram really has a distinctive sweet Note that I get with Tomatin, there's lots of Tropical fruit (melon, kiwi, lotsof kiwi, and pineapple) but with the addition of plum skin, Pomegranate seeds & coconut with a hint of acetone (due to ABV as this disappears with a touch of water)

Very fruity With pineapple, kiwi and Melon with plum and nectarine, & pomegranate a Wee kick of nutmeg & grated ginger too

Slight spice the super smooth fruit smoothie
