Bunnahabhain 8 Year Old Heavily Peated (Gordon & MacPhail) Review

Gordon and MacPhail Bunnahabhain 8 Year Old Heavily Peated Second helping from the Oran Mor Whisky club was a lovely Gordon & MacPhail Bunnahabhain 8 yr old from a refill sherry butt. I have always enjoyed Bunnahabhain whiskies over the years, I like the bottles as well and last year at Duty Free I treated myself to the Darach Ur which I thoroughly enjoyed.

So when this 8 yr old Heavily Peated bottle was poured I was eager to find out how it tasted as I knew it would be the total opposite of the Darach Ur. I really enjoyed this bottling and for me it tasted older than an 8 year old. I suppose from Gordon & MacPhail it was no surprise, as it was a perfectly balanced dram and it was a popular choice to the rest of the group.

If you are interested in this bottling I noticed The Green Welly stop have it on a special price. The Green Welly Stop

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Salty and sweet witha good helping of sherry and smoke.

Palate

Like going in reverse for the nose, smoky and sherry to start with followed by a sweetness and slight chocolate hints. A nice coating and a freshness and lightness of melon and peach.

Finish

A nice medium smoky finish with a good level of smokiness.
