09/12/2014 Toms Top 5 Xmas Presents for Whisky Lovers

Christmas is only a couple of weeks away now so if you haven't already got something for that spcial whisky drinker in your life, it's time to do so now!

I've given my Top 5 (in no particular order) recommendations of great things to give a whisky drinker from Christmas below. There should be something to fit every budget.

Big PeatBig Peat Christmas 2014, £45.95

Big Peat is a great dram to be given to any whisky drinker at any time of the year but the Christmas editions are always a bit special.

Every year, Big Peat, releases a new edition, this Limited Edition Christmas 2014 edition features fabulous new artwork and high quality peated contents. Every year the edition is slightly different and the 2014 edition is no different (reviews of every edition from 2011-2014 coming soon on the blog), but I can't recommend this highly enough.

Available at most good whisky specialists such as The Whisky Exchange, you can tell the years apart by different artwork on the bottles.

SMWSThe Scotch Malt Whisky Society membership, £122

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is the perfect gift for someone who loves whisky, with access to hundreds of unique and exclusive single cask bottlings every year along with one of the best whisky magazines you'll ever read on a quarterly basis and access to the Societies venues do i even really need to tell you that your first years membership also includes 3x100ml bottles of single cask whisky in a stunning presentation pack? I thought not. You can also save £22 on your first years membership by using SMWSfriends for a limited period only

I'm a huge fan of the society and have been a member for a few years now using mainly the Edinburgh Queen St venue, but there's so much more to the society than just the venues and the whisky selection thats available is out of this world, even Whisky magazine think so as they awarded The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Independent Bottler of the Year, a sign that of just how good the single cask bottlings from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society really are.

Kilchoman Abbey WhiskyKilchoman 2009 PX Finish Single Cask, £78.95

This fabulous single cask 2009 Kilchoman finished in a PX cask comes exclusively from Abbey Whisky and is another perfect winter warmer.

I reviewed this whisky a few weeks back and absolutely loved the combination of mossy heathery peat and jam like notes.

This is a proper Winter warmer of a whisky and one that you will not regret buying!

Available exclusively from Abbey Whisky

Glendronach 1994 RMW Exclusive Cask 311Glendronach 1994 RMW Exclusive Cask 311 £79.95

Royal Mile Whiskies have always had a habit of picking out some utterly fabulous single casks to bottle as exclusive drams and their taste in whiskies shines through here.

I've sampled this one but not reviewed it but lets be honest big sherry hitters like this this Glendronach need no introduction over Christmas and make the perfect dram to sit and sip by ther fireside whilst letting the huge amounts of turkey and trimmings settle whilst you contemplate attacking the Christmas Pudding.

The perfect accompaniment to any Christmas Day, this is a cracker of a dram that anyone would be happy to have in their collection.

Available exclusively from Royal Mile Whiskies

Glenfiddich Whisky CakeTinned Glenfiddich Highland Whisky Cake, £19.35

I know there are people out there that will think i'm off my head by suggestig this one but it really is fabulous, this Highland Whisky Cake made by Walkers (the shortbread company) is fabulous and features a generous soaking with Glenfiddich 12.

There's something utterly fabulous about a lovely bit of whisky soaked cake and it's a bit short time wise to do your own and this one is well worth the money.

you may be able to get this in the shops or you can buy direct from Walkers.

These are just a few suggestions for the whisky lover in your life, I'd always suggest popping into your local specialist whisky store and asking the advice of the staff, they really do know their stuff and will happily give you great advice.

Have a Great Christmas.
