A Triple Stack of Limeburners Review

limeburners m61Limeburners is a western Australian distillery who have been producing whisky since 2006 using barley grown in Perth, Autralia. The following Limeburners samples have been provided to me by Andrew (@ardbaggie) who is their UK representative.

This boutique distillery generaly use American Oak ex-bourbon barrels for the 2 years they have to legally mature before becoming whisky in Australia and are then transferred for a finishing period in other casks with wine and sherry casks being used with some of the best coming from the Barossa valley.

I have been really surprised at how good these young drams are, down to the heat and humidity in Australia meaning that the whisky matures at a quicker rate than in Scotland. If you get a chance to try some Limeburners i would certainly suggest you give them a try.

Many thanks to Andrew (@ardbaggie) and Limeburners for the official samples.

limeburners m61 This Limeburners M61 is part of a series of three small batch whiskies from Australian distillery Limeburners which have been provided to me by Andrew (@ardbaggie) who is their UK representative.

This dram was matured in 100ltr American ex bourbon casks and finished in very old Australian port casks barrelled on the 30/09/2008 and bottled on the 12/09/2013 making it almost 5 years old, this cask strength version at 60% really works with the flavours coming out stronger and with more oily mouthfeel, really nice dram.

Many thanks to Andrew (@ardbaggie) and Limeburners for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

A lovely spike of acetone covered plum jam and sprinkled demerera sugar with lots of toffee and menthol, there's a big malty, meaty note in here that hides in the background and jumps out every now and again to suprise you.

Palate

a huge menthol note with plum jam and demerera sugar, needs a touch of water to tame the acetone and bring out the meaty notes

Finish

plum jam, demerera sugar and toffee

Many thanks to Andrew (@ardbaggie) and Limeburners for the official sample.

initially quite a fresh and fruity nose with a dusty turkish carpet underlying it, there's hints of chocolate limes and a really fresh woodiness and gentle note of pink grapefruit and white chocolate.

Palate

Sweet and smooth with grapefruit and choolate limes, lots of lovely woodiness in here with hints of oil and vanilla coated wood sap.

Finish

sweet and oily
