A Pair of SMWS 35 Designer Casks Review

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyThe Scotch Malt Whisky Society really do like to challenge your perceptions of distillery character and these two "designer casks" from the same distillery, which tends to produce a damn fine dram anyway, really make you think hard..

Both the same distillery but both completely different drams with such wild and wonderful flavours, the only real similarity being that they both keep changing in the glass becoming more and more interesting and both of these drams are ones you would go back to the bottle for something different every time, fabulous stuff..

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society for a limited time you can also use the code SMWSfriends to save £22, you can also use this on the gift membership too, so get some money off a friends Christmas present.

SMWS 35.112 Perfect Storm of Flavours Review

View Standard Review Page

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyAnother from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society whisky for a year selection from this year as May's bottle was this 35.112 Perfect Storm of Flavours, which was descirbed as being from a "designer cask".

I really don't have a clue what a "designer cask" is but i know this is a cracking dram, with a huge amount of flavours going on, seriously addictive to go back and try again and again to get more flavours from it.

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

Oh this is interesting it's quite woody/oaky to begin with then opens up to something sweeter, almost lightly toasted white bread and warm honey then something tree sap like or maple like ... A woody syrupy waxy loveliness

Palate

Sweet and easy to drink then it goes chalky powdery sweet like soft edinburgh rock melting on your tongue, a touch of floral gums and hiding in the background some iced gingerbread loaf

Finish

Drying then gingery then sweet again

SMWS 35.83 Firework Bursts of Aroma Review

View Standard Review Page

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyThis The Scotch Malt Whisky Society dram was on the bar at Queen Street and i really fancied something interesting, and with this being another of those "designer casks" i really had to try 35.83 Firework Bursts of Aroma .

I still don't have a clue what a "designer cask" is but this dram was fabulous, sweet, fruity, chocolatey and full of flavours that like to pull you about and make you sniff harder and taste more, maybe these "designer casks" are doing something right.

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
